Form vs. Shape
As fifth and sixth grade artists explore the Elements of Art, we discussed the difference between Form and Shape. Students used wooden blocks to create a Form Still Life, then photographed it and drew it with pencil or charcoal.

Line collections and Primary Colors by grades 1 and 2

First and second grade artists learned about different types of lines. We watched this video to see some examples of lines.
Then we used acrylic paint to create line collections. Check out this time lapse video of one student's artwork that I made on the iPad using the app iMotion HD.

Paper Relief and Photography
This project truly took on a life of its own! After looking at several examples of paper relief online on Pinterest, I set out cardboard squares, glue and piles of white paper, but I gave very few instructions about how to proceed. Artists experimented with rolling, folding and wrinkling the paper to create these magnificent sculptures. Then we set up a photography station using black paper, an overhead projector and the iPad. Students used basic photo filters to emphasize the way the light hit their creations. So beautiful!
