Paul Klee City Collaborative Mural
First and second graders learned about Paul Klee's painting "Castle and Sun," and created collages inspired by this painting. Click here to see this work! Then we used cardboard scraps to construct this collaborative city mural.
This is awesome. I want to do a Paul Klee collaborative project! What was the lesson behind it, were there certain colors students have to use, and how did you hang up the cardboard?
Thank you, Jayme! We started this lesson by studying Paul Klee's painting "Castle and Sun" and looking at other examples of his work (see the link above). Students had already created castles or buildings using cut paper. For the cardboard city, I cut shapes with the paper cutter and students painted them with warm and cool colors. We assembled them on a large sheet of black paper using white glue. I hung it by creating tabs along the top edge with packing tape and using a million staples. I hope you give this lesson a try! Let me know how it goes!
